eBay is Dead. Long live eBay! April 26-May 5, 2019 Sales Update

eBay is Dead(ish)

There’s no way to sugar coat this one. EBAY WAS DEAD for us last week.

In the span of 10 days, we had a total of eight sales on eBay. Last week (Week 18) we only had three eBay sales. I think that has to be a new record low for us when we’ve had an eBay store in place. And we have THREE eBay stores at the moment. All 3 sales were on one account. For reference, 3-4 sales PER DAY had been an average day for us last year. We should have shipped out somewhere in the 30-40 range. But other than January, the rest of 2019 has been brutal on eBay.

But making up theories and whining about it will do no good. It’s merely a reminder that we should never put all of our reselling eggs in one basket because you never know what might happen. Next week Amazon servers might crash and eBay sales go through the roof.

That said, I decided to give Poshmark another try a few weeks ago and we sold 3 items there last week. I’ll put those in a separate post.

I was also introduced to another Poshmark-like site a few days ago and will be giving that a try as well. Stay tuned.

What Sold on eBay

Without further ado, here’s what sold on eBay. The typical trend of hats & stuff. No clothing sales.

Labatt Blue Beer Cobalt Blue Pint Glass

I sold a Labatt Blue Beer Cobalt Blue Pint Glass via Best Offer and Promoted Listings at 8.3%.

This was listed on June 10, 2018, and purchased at a yard sale.

VERDICT: Toss up. Pint glasses don’t sell like they used to. But when they do the profit is good.

Canon MAXIFY PGI-2200 CMY (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow) 3 Ink Value Pack

I sold a Canon MAXIFY PGI-2200 CMY (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow) 3 Ink Value Pack via Best Offer.

This was listed on April 10, 2019, and purchased at a thrift store.

VERDICT: Buy most ink but look it up.

Playstation Buzz x4 Controllers

I sold Playstation Buzz x4 Controllers via Best Offer.

This was listed on March 14, 2019, and purchased at a thrift store.

VERDICT: Toss Up. It sold fairly quickly, but it topped the 1 pound threshold, thus shipping eats into the profit potential.

Norman Rockwell Collectible Marble Champion Tin The Saturday Evening Post

I sold Norman Rockwell Collectible Marble Champion Tin The Saturday Evening Post via Best Offer and Promoted Listings at 6.4%.

This was listed on July 2, 2018, and has something my mom had sitting around for YEARS.

VERDICT: I wouldn’t buy it to resell, but if you’re clearing things out you’ll eventually make a few dollars on it.

Som-Her Western Purple Bull Hat

I sold a Som-Her Western Purple Bull Hat at the full asking price and Promoted Listings at 9.8%.

This was listed on February 14, 2019, and purchased at a thrift store.

VERDICT: Buy hats!

Ganz Cottage Collectibles Tillie Carol Kirby Plush Teddy Bear 1998

I sold a Ganz Cottage Collectibles Tillie Carol Kirby Plush Teddy Bear 1998  at the full asking price.

This was listed on March 14, 2019, and was in an auction lot that I bought for something else. Selling the “extras” is a common theme in this business.

VERDICT: Buy if you can get it cheap enough. It sells fairly quickly.

Sunoco Pipeline 811 Dig Baseball Hat

I sold a Sunoco Pipeline 811 Dig Baseball Hat via Best Offer and Promoted Listings at 9%.

This was listed on March 15, 2019, and purchased at a thrift store.

VERDICT: Buy hats!

Legrand-Pass & Seymour White Plastic Despard Wall Plate

I sold another Legrand-Pass & Seymour White Plastic Despard Wall Plate at the full asking price.

VERDICT: Buy if you stumble across them in bulk for cheap. But be prepared to sell them over YEARS. I’ve been selling these since 2017.

What Sold On eBay: April 25, 2019

What Sold On eBay

On Thursday, April 25, 2019, I sold two items on eBay.

It was complete radio silence on eBay all day then in the span of 23 minutes three offers came in (8:36 PM, 8:39 PM & 8:59 PM). Things that make you go “Huh?!”

Accents & Occasions “Love You Snow Much” Christmas Candle Holder

I sold an Accents & Occasions “Love You Snow Much” Christmas Candle Holder via Best Offer and Promoted Listings at 5.30%.

This was listed on November 10, 2017, and purchased at a thrift store.

The interesting part of this sale is that Christmas sells all year long.

But I didn’t expect something so small to be so heavy and it was a task to get this under a pound. If I hadn’t I would have taken a loss on it.

VERDICT: Avoid.

Republic Services Waste DTS Mesh Snapback Baseball Hat

I sold a Republic Services Waste DTS Mesh Snapback Baseball Hat via Best Offer.

Have I said before that I love selling hats?

This was listed on March 15, 2019, and purchased at a thrift store. Great fairly quick sale and I actually have one more available.

VERDICT: Buy.

Weekly Listing Challenge for 2019 Q2 W4 (Week 17)

On Thursday I listed 0 items on Fazoom.com, 0 items on eBay and 0 items on Poshmark. That’s right, I didn’t list anything as I needed to tackle some consulting work.

As I write this it’s almost noon on Friday, so TBD how far I get today. Honestly, I’m not so concerned about Poshmark as I have a lot of things I want to get up on eBay. And Poshmark hasn’t resulted in a single sale yet. Priorities.

Platform Listed Goal To List Over
Fazoom.com 69 75 6 0
eBay 40 75 35 0
Poshmark 0 25 25 0
TOTAL 109 175 41 0

Stay tuned to the What I Listed category to see the progress.

What Sold On eBay: April 19-24, 2019

What Sold On eBay

From Friday through Wednesday, April 19-24, 2019, I sold eight items on eBay. Well, actually seven. One canceled because they didn’t read or look at photos first. Wednesday was actually our second official non-sales day of April. While sales are very slow right now, the items that we have sold in the last week have mostly been pretty good ones.

Antique Honey Amber Skull & Crossbones Poison Tinct. Iodine Bottle

I sold an Antique Honey Amber Skull & Crossbones Poison Tinct. Iodine Bottle via Best Offer and Promoted Listings.

This was listed on March 13, 2019, and purchased in an auction lot. Great quick sale.

VERDICT: Buy.

Pendleton Women’s Malin Pants

I sold a Pendleton Women’s Malin Pants via Best Offer.

These were listed on August 8, 2018, and part of my brand new bulk clothing buys last year. Slow moving because I refuse to give away brand new clothing.

VERDICT: Personally I’m avoiding most clothing. If you like clothing they’ll eventually sell for a decent price.

New York Islanders Hat

I sold a New York Islanders Hat via Best Offer.

I have a few of these hats and they were listed on September 30, 2018, just in time for hockey season. Also part of my bulk clothing buys. Yet they are only selling now that it’s the second round of the playoffs and the Islanders are still playing. Go figure.

VERDICT: Buy if new. I love selling hats, but pro sports ones seem to be slow movers.

Small Classic Jewish Star of David Pendant Necklace

I sold a Small Classic Jewish Star of David Pendant Necklace via Best Offer.

This was stuck in an auction lot last year and I just got around to listing it on April 8th. Quick sale, but low dollar.

VERDICT: If you have them, list them. But if I were to buy them I’d have to get them cheap enough and be able to pick up a gross of them.

Ruidoso Downs New Mexico Rope Snapback Hat

I sold a Ruidoso Downs New Mexico Rope Snapback Hat at the full asking price.

This was picked up at a thrift store and listed last week. The hat has some cosmetic issues too which were noted in the listing. You can’t beat that.

VERDICT: Buy. Vintage hats are hot right now.

Slipknot Summers Last Stand Prepare for Hell 2015 Tour T-shirt

I sold a Slipknot Summers Last Stand Prepare for Hell 2015 Tour T-shirt via Best Offer.

This was picked up at a thrift store and listed in September 2017. I’m glad it’s gone.

VERDICT: Don’t Buy. More clothing and a long tail item. Stick to older concert tees if you’re going to buy them.

Tobin Stamped Embroidery Kit 17″ x 30″ Kitchen Towels

I sold yet another Tobin Kittens Kitchen Towels Stamped Embroidery Kit via Best Offer.

VERDICT: After months of being listed they’re finally selling.

2019 Q2W3 (Week 16) Sales Recap

Quantity wise we had our worst week in over a month. Overall #14 out of 16. Yes, it was that bad.

Dollar wise it ranks #4 out of 16.  If only one number is going to be higher that’s the one I want it to be.

Weekly Listing Challenge for 2019 Q2 W4 (Week 17)

To avoid burnout I know that the 200-300 item listing weeks cannot be a regular thing. Ideally, I need to be at around 75-100 listings a week, but until I get the “death pile” under control I do need to push it a little.

That said, the magic number is 175 this week, with around 100 of those items be cross postings or moves.

As of Wednesday, I listed 69 items on Fazoom.com, 40 items on eBay and 0 items on Poshmark so far this week. All old magazine ads.

Platform Listed Goal To List Over
Fazoom.com 69 75 6 0
eBay 40 75 35 0
Poshmark 0 25 25 0
TOTAL 109 175 41 0

Weekly Listing Totals for 2019 Q2 W3 (Week 16)

What Sold On eBay: April 17, 2019

What Sold On eBay

On Wednesday, April 17, 2019, I sold two items on eBay.

National Biscuit Company Jar Vintage Nabisco Store Display Stacking Glass Globe

I sold a National Biscuit Company Jar Vintage Nabisco Store Display Stacking Glass Globe via Best Offer and Promoted Listings at trending + 2% (I’ll add the rate once they pay, but it looks like it is around 8%).

My dad picked this up in an auction lot in February that he won going after another item. As I was sorting through things I saw what I initially thought was a fishbowl, filled with Easter grass and old dyed eggs…one from 1881!!! As I looked closer I realized that it was actually an old counter jar they’d put crackers and whatnot in at the local corner store in the early 1900s.

I also found an old note explaining where everything came from, which was pretty cool.

As far as the eggs go, that probably deserves a blog post of its own. As I’ve researched I’ve only found a few such eggs and they appear to be in museums.

VERDICT: Buy. If you can get all three sizes and their lids, even better.

Vans Sk8-Hi All Maroon Canvas Skate Shoes

I sold a pair of Vans Sk8-Hi All Maroon Canvas Skate Shoes via Best Offer.

I picked these up at an auction in February as an experiment. But they weren’t in as good as a condition as I had initially thought, making it hard to sell them for what similar pairs usually go for. You live and learn.

VERDICT: Pick them up if they’re in decent shape and at a good price. Vans seem to be pretty hot right now.

Weekly Listing Challenge Update for Week 16 (2019 Q2 W3)

Yesterday I listed 0 items on Fazoom.com, 0 items on eBay and 12 items on Poshmark.

Wednesday is my sourcing day so anything listing on Wednesday is a bonus.

Today will be spent listing jewelry on all three platforms as well as listing a few hats on eBay. Then I’ll move some more clothing items from eBay to Fazoom.com and cross-post them to Poshmark.

At the end of the day, I would like to have my weekly listing goals knocked out, so I need to get cracking.

Platform Listed Goal To List Over
Fazoom.com 41 100 59 0
eBay 26 50 24 0
Poshmark 110 100 0 10
TOTAL 177 250 83 10

What Sold On eBay: April 16, 2019

What Sold On eBay

On Tuesday, April 16, 2019, I sold two items on eBay.

NHRA Mellow Yellow Pro Stock Event Winner Phoenix 2019 Jeg Coughlin Jr. Hat

I sold an NHRA Mellow Yellow Pro Stock Event Winner Phoenix 2019 Jeg Coughlin Jr. Hat at a fair market value via Best Offer two hours after listing it.

Living in the “Racing Capital of the World” you run across some awesome motorsports related items on occasion, and this is one such item.

While I have seen plenty of these hats in person and on TV, I had to do a double take when I spotted this last week while at Goodwill along with some other racing hats. You see, this is the hat that you’ll see the race winner wearing in post-race interviews. And sometimes crew members and owners as well. The race took place two months ago.

Jeg Coughlin Jr. won the Pro Stock class at the Magic Dry Organic Absorbent NHRA Arizona Nationals held Feb 22-24, 2019 at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, AZ (Phoenix area).

VERDICT: Buy it if you stumble across one. It’s a home run.

Indiana University Hooded Sweatshirt by Colosseum Athletics

Despite having awful photos, I sold an Indiana University Hooded Sweatshirt by Colosseum Athletics via a 40% off sale.

This was listed in October 2017. That tells it all.

VERDICT: Avoid. I’m not picking these up anymore. Even similar new with tags items move slowly. No thanks and good riddance.

Weekly Listing Challenge Update for Week 16 (2019 Q2 W3)

Yesterday I listed 14 items on Fazoom.com, 26 items on eBay and 3 items on Poshmark.

Platform Listed Goal To List
Fazoom.com 41 100 59
eBay 26 50 24
Poshmark 98 100 2
TOTAL 165 250 85
