What Sold On eBay: March 17, 2019

On Sunday, March 17, 2019, I sold three items on eBay. Slow sales day for a Sunday, but I’ll take it given how things have been going lately.

The odd thing is that all three items were from our clothing account. Clothing typically accounts for 1/3 or less of our daily sales, but here we have 100% and no movement on the main account at all.

1. I sold an Indiana University T-Shirt via best offer and with a 1% promoted listing.

I’m pretty sure this was a thrift store pick up back in 2017 or early 2018.

Another bad photo, taken on my HUGE male torso mannequin. Also something I’m not sure I’d pick up again.

2. I sold a Women’s Aeropostale High Waisted Shorty Jean Shorts via best offer.

While I dislike selling most clothing, I love selling women’s jean shorts. They’re easy to photograph, easy to ship, cheap to ship and easy to store. While they don’t go for a lot of money, they’re an easy “bread & butter” item to keep in stock.

These were probably picked up at a thrift store at some point in 2018.

3. I sold a Women’s Bob Mackie Wearable Art Jacket via best offer.

This was picked up at a thrift store back in 2017 and listed back in 2017 as well. I can tell because when I first started selling clothing I thought that a clothing rack would be a good purchase for taking clothing photographs. I was wrong. But it is good to hang things on.

This one goes on my anti-BOLO list.

2019 Q1 W11 Recap

Quantity wise we sold 15 items last week, which is up from 12 in week 10 and only 6 in week 9. For reference, we sold 33 items in week 11 of the first quarter in 2018 AND had less inventory listed.

We had our first week with sales every single day since week 7 and the numbers are trending upward, so hopefully, things are just a little late this year, possibly due to tax returns and the government shutdown fiasco.

More eBay Changes and a Comedy of Errors

That said, eBay has doing some major messing around with the site since late January and I’ve been seeing errors and new screens pop up all of the time. This is on both the buyer and seller side.

Last year they claimed they would test things and get feedback before implementing changes, but clearly, that wasn’t the case. This isn’t helpful for anyone. Please, eBay, get your act together and hire a competent IT AND management team. This is getting old.

What Sold On eBay: March 16, 2019

On Saturday, March 16, 2019, I sold three items on eBay.

1. I sold a Samsung BD-JM59 Curved Smart 3D Blu-Ray Disc Player on sale 10% 0ff and through a 1% promoted listing.

I picked this up sometime last year either at a yard sale or thrift store. I actually had another one like this that sold right away, so I’m not sure why this one sat so long. But that’s the way of the eBay.

I’d rather sell Blu-Ray players than VCRs as the pricing is somewhat similar for standard versions and the shipping is much cheaper.

2. I sold a Coca-Cola Coke Thermo-Serv Plastic Drinking Tumbler via best offer.

Six of these were in one of the auction box lots from Wednesday, so I have 5 of these cups left. This was listed a few days ago and had little competition.

I find that overall Coke items are really hit-or-miss. Some sell fast and some sit forever so it’s not really something I go searching for and wouldn’t invest a whole lot in mass-produced items.

3. I sold a McDonald’s Crest Uniform Shirt via best offer and with a 1% promoted listing.

I picked this up either in 2017 or early 2018 back when I was buying clothes regularly. This is something I’d put on my anti-BOLO list. Some uniform apparel sells well, but in my experience, McDonald’s is not among them. But it has sold and that’s a good thing all around.

Also, note that the photos of this were horrible. I haven’t found a way to photograph clothing that I really like, but the “flat lay” method doesn’t work for me on shirts.

Weekend Listing

My weekends are busy, so I rarely list anything on the weekends. And when I do it’s usually on a Sunday night when I’m getting the orders together for Monday shipping.

Do you list over the weekend?

What Sold On eBay: March 15, 2019

On Friday, March 15, 2019, I sold three items on eBay.

1. A Rex Humbard KJV Prophecy Bible sold with a Best Offer AND a Promoted Listing at 1%.

I believe this Bible was in a box lot that I had bought at the auction house. Bibles are good sellers, but be sure to note any issues including writing and folding of pages. And flip through the pages to see might have been left behind.

2. A Robert Indiana Love Gold-Tone Pin sold via Best Offer to someone outside of the United States.

I don’t normally list pins, especially one-offs, on eBay anymore, and place them on our website instead (visit https://fazoom.com/pin-backs).  But I decided to give this pin one cycle since there was no competition and it’s a fairly popular subject matter.

I bought it at the auction house on Wednesday, listed it on Wednesday, and sold it on Friday, so that was a fairly fast seller making eBay a good call.

3. Our third sale of the day was a Grossery Grocery Gang Time Wars Powered Up Gooey Chewie Action Figure that was a retail arbitrage pickup. It sold at the asking price which was on a 10% sale PLUS through a 1% promoted listing.

This was listed on February 22nd, so it took exactly 3 weeks to sell.

Mid-March Sales Snapshot

Across all platforms, our February sales were down 53% from January sales. March sales are mimicking February sales right now. Talking to other resellers, this is what a lot of people are seeing.

Is it the economy or the platforms? That’s to be determined. But what I do know is that our sales are down around 50% from February & March 2018 AND we have 4 times more products listed this year.

What Sold On eBay: March 14, 2019

On Thursday, March 14, 2019, I sold 2 items on eBay.

1. A “Jobu’s Rum” Coffee Mug. This was a one-off purchase and sold within a few months of listing. It sold at asking price and very early Thursday morning.

2. A UConn Connecticut Huskies Hat that was part of a bulk buy last year (I still have a handful of these). It sold via a reasonable Best Offer AND Promoted Listings at 1%.

We had one offer on another item that we sent a counter offer back on.

Keeping true to eBay over the past 6 weeks, sales are well below normal right now. But I’m thrilled having sold both a mug and a hat today as those are two product lines that we specialize in.

What Sold On eBay: March 13, 2019

I had one sale on eBay on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, a Downton Abbey Snow Globe (Miniature Editions). If you need one of these I have a LOT of them in stock and have them listed on just about every platform we sell on.

Sales on eBay were painfully slow in February and March is currently charting that exact same course. We’re not alone in this and there are numerous theories flying around. Hopefully things will turn around soon, because this time of year has typically been “Taxmas” season where sales abound.
